Founded in memory of Philadelphia’s city planner, Edmund N. Bacon, the Edmund N. Bacon Urban Design Awards honor both professionals and students whose work epitomizes excellence in urban design.
Brief: How might, Chelten Avenue, the historic shopping district in Germantown, be designed to better support the local community, improve safety and accessibility for pedestrians and help reveal all the nearby amenities available to shoppers?
Proposal: Make Little Plans is a community-driven design that seeks change through the accretion of micro-interventions over time. Little Plans become Patchworks, and these Patchworks make an urban Quilt. Little Plans operate at the human scale, allowing community members to take advantage of changes rather than being displaced
